The fact that exercise is essential for healthy and fit living cannot be emphasised enough. However, it can be confusing to decide which exercises you need to do routinely. If you categorize them into two general types of exercise, you need a combination of strength training and cardio workouts to look and feel younger.
Cardio refers to any physical activity that increases your heart rate. This way your cells get more oxygen. You can speed up your blood flow with any exercise such as walking, running, jogging, biking, swimming or playing tennis.
Research has backed the importance of cardio activity with various studies. One involved studying two groups of mice where one group got no exercise and the other was given a wheel to run. The active group showed significantly improved health in contrast to the sedentary mice.
This wasn’t the only effect seen. The inactive group of mice started balding and graying of the fur happened. These negative signs were not seen in the group that exercised.
Humans were also put through a study in which skin samples were taken from people over the age of 65 who had sedentary lifestyles. They were then split in two groups and a routine of regular cardio exercise was assigned for one group. After three months, skin samples from both groups were taken again to be compared.
Doctors found marked improvement in both the outer and inner layers of the skin of the active group, to the point where it was similar to the skin of someone aged 40.
#2 Strength Training
After a certain age, a loss in muscle mass and bone density starts to occur in the body. You can slow down the effects of aging and the rate at which this decline happens by doing multiple repetitions with resistance bands and light weights. With proper workout plans, you can maintain muscle mass and even keep your muscles toned.
#3 Eating Right
If you really want to look and feel younger, you cannot ignore your eating habits. Fast food, processed products and sugar-filled sodas will do you no good and will waste the efforts you make to exercise.
Your diet should be full of nutrition, which can be obtained from eating fresh fruits and vegetables, nuts, whole grains and lean meats.
Aging also causes a slowing down of your metabolism, so your portions need to be controlled too. You can gain weight even if you continue taking the same quantity as before, so take care to find out what the serving size of your meal is.
The only way to slow down the aging process to look and feel younger is through strength training, cardio and healthy eating. Regular exercise can improve your muscle tone, stamina and skin. You can become more energetic and feel healthy and fit with the right combination of exercise and a good diet.
